Somers Fishing Tackle has been at the heart of the angling community in the North East of Scotland for decades. Jim Somers opened his shop in 1951 on Thistle Street in Aberdeen and soon established a strong reputation. Somers was the manufacturer of the famous Grant Vibration Green Heart Rod, which many anglers, of a certain vintage, claim to be one of the best roads ever created. This rod cemented Somers Fishing as a quality manufacturer of products for the angling industry in the UK. Unfortunately, as Jims health declined he made the decision to sell the shop to the current owner, David Craik.
The shop, now managed by Colin Craik, stocks all the major angling brands and has a first class fly tying section. The shop staff know their products intimately and can help and guide customers ensuring the highest standards of service and expertise.
“We pride ourselves on having the best product range and the highest standards of customer service at Somers. We are all passionate fishers in the shop, so we understand our customers and take great pride in making sure they are well looked after. I am always on the lookout for new products and like to think we are ahead of the game in providing the very best tackle, clothing and fly tying materials.”

Deeside Activity Park has some very comfortable accommodation for anglers. There are three comfortable cottages, The Bothy, The Byre and The Stables, all dog-friendly, and well-appointed with excellent facilities. They are an ideal choice for fishing the Dee and the wide range of activities available at the Park, including karting, archery, paintballing and much more, make it ideal for family groups to combine fishing with other fun activities during a holiday on Deeside.
Sales Manager, Cilla Wood, believe the Park and its accommodation is the perfect choice for visiting anglers and their families “ We have a very attractive range of accommodation and the wide range of activities at the Park mean we can offer a fantastic Deeside holiday. The Cottages are perfect for visiting anglers and the Park has so much to do it is ideal for those who like to bring the whole family.”

The first of February seems a long way off, but once we have recovered from the festivities and returned to work there will be just three weeks to wait until we get going on another season on the Dee. Preparations for 2016 are well underway at Park where the team have been busy behind the scenes getting everything ready for their guests.
As part of their plans for 2016, proprietor William Foster recently announced the availability of some new accommodation at Park.
“I am pleased with what we have done with the cottage and think it will appeal to many of our customers and also those who are fishing elsewhere. Lime Tree Cottage is a delightful base for fishers who want to maximise their time on the water being only 5 minutes from the river via a private track.”
The cottage is fully furnished providing 1 double room and 1 single room with a shared bathroom on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is an open plan kitchen, lounge and drying room. Heating is by the Park biomass system which keeps the cottage warm and comfortable.
