One of the biggest annual events on Deeside

On Saturday 3rd August the public will turn out in large numbers in support of the Aboyne Highland Games. These games have been held since 1867 and are known as the home of Traditional Highland Games. These popular games can attract up to 10,000 visitors creating a superb atmosphere.

Come to Royal Deeside and witness a true re-enactment of traditional Highland Games.  There’s something for all members of the family.  For the kids a really authentic fun fair just like the one Mum and Dad used to enjoy – and probably still do!  An opportunity to try their hand at the athletic events, running, high jump, long jump, hop step and leap and probably the biggest hoot of the lot, the hilarious Aboyne Games Junior Sack Race.

For the “grown-ups” a feast of arena events (over 90 in total) varying from the formidable “heavies” tossing the caber, throwing the heavy hammers and putting the shot.  Pipers and Dancers abound with the added attraction of at least 5 pipe bands filling the Glen with the skirl of the pipes and the beat of the drums.

Come and watch the fast and furious athletic and track events, marvel at the stamina of the hill race competitors ascending and descending the rigorous fungle 6 mile hill in less than 45 minutes.

Take a leisurely stroll through the many aisles or quality trade stands, food and craft stalls.

Visit the unique fiddle competition hosted by Deeside legendary fiddle champion – Paul Anderson, or simply while away an hour in our open air bar or restaurant facility. They have masses of grandstand seating and parking, both absolutely FREE. There is truly something for everyone, put together especially for you by a dedicated team of local volunteers who all hope you will come and enjoy the fruits of their labours and return home happy.
