Dee Catchment Outreach Officer

Delivering education, encouraging river-based activities and raising awareness on the River Dee

Post: This post, based on Deeside with the River Dee Trust (RDT) and working for both the RDT and the Dee Catchment Partnership (DCP), will deliver education and awareness raising of the river and its issues and promote an interest in and responsible use of the river.

The post will continue until end of March 2016. The initial salary is £22,000 with annual review thereafter.

Location: The post will be based at the RDT River Office at Mill of Dinnet close to Aboyne in the heart of Aberdeenshire. However work will be undertaken throughout the catchment and will involve a mixture of indoor and outdoor work.

Us: The post holder will be employed by the RDT and will work for the RDT two days per week and for the DCP three days per week. The RDT is a charitable River Trust whose remit includes the provision of scientific and education services to fisheries and the wider community in the River Dee area, leading to environmental protection and improvement of the associated rivers and riparian habitats. The DCP is a voluntary association of catchment stakeholders, including the RDT, who work together to secure the preservation, protection and restoration of the water environment and to educate the public in the management of water and the River Dee catchment. You: You are enthusiastic about the water environment and keen to share this enthusiasm with members of the public and all stakeholders of the river. You have an understanding and experience of rivers and catchment related issues. You have excellent communication skills, in multiple media, with which to engage with a wide range of people, including young people, community groups, farmers, land managers, river workers and agencies.
